New Elevator Makes Seoul Tower More Accessible

An inclined elevator is now in service for taking 20 people at a time up the side of Seoul’s landmark Mt. Namsan, where the W Seoul Tower and Namsan Park are located.

Mt. Namsan and W Seoul Tower together are a prime tourist destination, besides being popular with locals, for the great view of the city for the tower’s observation deck, rotating restaurant, surrounding park area, and special exhibits such as the teddy bear museum.

To get to Seoul Tower, previously one needed to either walk part way up Mt. Namsan or take a shuttle bus to reach the cable car that goes the rest of the way up to the tower.

Now the inclined elevator goes from the base of Mt. Namsan up to the cable car landing, saving a 15-minute walk uphill. The elevator itself is a glass enclosure, giving a great view during the approximately 2-minute ascent.

The elevator can be accessed from the Namsan Tunnel 3 area at the base of Mt. Namsan. Operating hours are 9 am to midnight, and service is free.
