2010 Seoul Lantern Festival



Seoul, a city of lights and hope

Lanterns symbolize hopes and wishes.
With these lanterns, a forest of lights will be created with 10 million embers radiating the hopes of Seoul’s citizens.

In 2010, Seoul’s mascot, Haechi, will help bring Seoul’s hopes to life In this forest of lights.

Encouraging the hopes and dreams of Seoul’s people, Seoul will be a beacon of light shining on the future.

In November 2010, the Cheonggyecheon (Stream) will be dotted With a variety of Korean traditional lanterns along with brilliant lanterns from all over the world, planting positive thoughts and hopes into visitors’ minds.




Date : Period : 14:00~23, Nov.5 ~ nov.14, 2010(10days)
Venues : The region from Cheonggye Plaza, Majeongyo (Bridge) , Gwangtonggyo (Bridge) to Samilgyo (Bridge)
Details :
1. Opening lighting ceremony: 18:00 – 20:00, Nov. 5 (Fri.)
2. Exhibits of lanterns from Korea and overseas
3. Experience events: Make your own hope lantern/wear ribbon of hope, partake in experience programs by country
4. Supplementary events: Korean traditional performances, street artist performances
5. Special program: Guided tour of the festival



Make Your Own Lantern of Hope Oct. 15 - Nov. 4 Cheonggye Plaza Make lanterns that represent your hopes and wishes in various shapes and colors.
Write down your wish and display it in the Cheonggye Plaza - Gwangtonggyo (Bridge) zone.
Nov. 5 - Nov. 14 Under Gwanggyo (Bridge)
Wear A Ribbon of Hope Oct. 15 - Nov. 4 Cheonggye Plaza Write down your wishes on ribbons in various colors that symbolize Seoul and display them in the Cheonggye Plaza - Gwangtonggyo (Bridge) zone.

Festival Guided Tour Oct. 15 - Nov. 4
Pre-registration Cheonggye Plaza Guided tours of the festival can be given at the exhibits in four languages. Visitors are briefed about the exhibits and the history of the Cheonggyecheon (Stream). (Korean/English/Chinese/Japanese)
